Kelley’s 2019 Best Resale List: 9 of the Top 10 are 4x4s

We all know that our trucks hold their value better than all other passenger vehicles, with the exception of classic and exotic automobiles. And Kelley Blue Book’s best resale list for 2019 confirms it.

The list examines resale value after 60 months. Of the top 10 rides on the list, a solid nine happen to be trucks and SUVs.

Vehicle Resale value after 60 months
2019 Toyota Tacoma 62.2%
2019 Jeep Wrangler 58.3%
2019 Toyota Tundra 56.9%
2019 GMC Sierra 56.7%
2019 Toyota 4Runner 56.3%
2019 Chevrolet Silverado 53.7%
2019 Honda Ridgeline 51.3%
2019 Chevrolet Colorado 50.9%
2019 Ford F-Series 50.6%
2019 Porsche Macan 50.0%

KBB’s list is very similar to last year, which was also dominated by trucks. The only changes are a reshuffling of the top nine contenders — this year the Wrangler overtook the Tundra to claim the #2 spot, while the 10th slot went from the Subaru WRX to the Porsche Macan. It’s interesting to note how the sole outlier on the list, the Macan, is a crossover, which confirms America’s love for trucks and SUVs.

As for the top spot, the Tacoma has reigned as the resale value king for the past 5 years, possessing nearly 70% of its value after 36 months of ownership, and 62% resale value after 60 months. According to Kelley, superior build quality and Toyota’s reputation for reliability are the two main factors that contribute to its unmatched resale value. In fact the Tacoma has consistently earned a KBB trophy since the company began its best resale list, with the midsize pickup winning the top spot five years in a row now.

So if you’re buying a truck with an eye towards reselling it, the Taco just might be your best choice.
