Sweet N Low

WHEN YOU HAIL FROM THE SUN-DRENCHED, WIDE-OPEN LANDSCAPE OF SAN ANGELO, TEXAS, YOU LEARN A FEW INHERENT TRUTHS ABOUT CUSTOM TRUCK CULTURE.

You learn that style isn’t about who can scream the loudest with neon gimmicks or over-the-top styling. True, undeniable street presence comes from something much more potent: a vibe that is smooth and laid back but still carries enough bold attitude to command the asphalt the second the tires start rolling.

Enter Jay Cruz Torres.

Texas Sweet Tea

Jay didn’t set out to construct a trailer queen that relies on shock value. Instead, he wanted to brew a custom hauler that speaks completely for itself through precision and perfect execution. The result of that single-minded vision is the absolute neck-breaker gracing these pages: a custom build aptly named Texas Sweet Tea.

If the name sounds familiar, you’ve been paying attention to the scene. Texas Sweet Tea serves as the ultimate sister build to Jay’s other jaw-dropper, Sweet N Low. By keeping the flavor rolling, Jay managed to give both trucks their own distinct identity while locking down a cohesive, top-tier garage lineup that connects seamlessly under one grand theme.

Texas Sweet Tea

Texas Sweet Tea is one of those rare, elite builds that doesn’t need to blend in or yell for attention. It is simple, ultra-clean, slammed to the earth, and built exactly the right way from the ground up. To achieve this level of perfection, Jay lined up a heavy-hitting crew of Texas-based automotive artisans who know exactly how to handle steel and sheet metal.

Texas Sweet Tea

To kick off the visual transformation, the truck was delivered to the masters at Phat Paint Customs in McKinney, Texas. The crew spent tireless hours smoothing out the body lines before drenching the sheet metal in a killer coat of Dirtbag Brown, capped off with a heavy dose of Extra Gold Pearl finish. The combination reacts under the Texas sun like pure liquid gold. To give the exterior that definitive custom edge, Daniel from Wylie, Texas, stepped up to lay down the precision custom graphics that tie the whole color palette together.

Pop the hood, and you won’t find any cut corners. Jay wanted real-deal American muscle to match the exterior styling, so he enlisted Old 90 Speed Shop out of Houston. They delivered a fully built LS1 V8 power plant that looks just as clean as it performs, ensuring this tea has plenty of kick when Jay steps on the gas.

The stance on this rig is an absolute work of art. To get the truck sitting directly on the pavement, a full custom Chassis Fab frame was brought in, paired with a completely dialed-in air suspension system.

The goal? To flawlessly tuck a massive set of 24×15 Raceline Static 5 wheels deep into the bedsides. When Jay hits the switches and airs this truck out, the massive rollers disappear into the bodywork, leaving onlookers with their jaws on the floor. It is simple, it is low, and it is executed with flawless geometry.

Behind every great truck featured in this magazine is a story of grit, long hours, and endless gratitude. For Jay, this build is a direct reflection of his lifestyle and the community that keeps him moving forward.

First and foremost, Jay wants to thank God for blessing him every single day, giving him the opportunity to wake up, put in the hard work, and make the money required to build a dream truck of this caliber.

Texas Sweet Tea

Jay also extends a massive shoutout to the entire community it took to bring Texas Sweet Tea to life. “There are honestly too many people to name,” Jay says with a laugh. “But every bit of help, support, work, advice, and love along the way never went unnoticed. At the end of the day, this build came together because of everybody who put their hands on it, and I appreciate every single one of y’all.

Keep your eyes peeled on the show circuit, because Jay Cruz Torres is out here serving up Texas Sweet Tea hot, wide, and laying frame.
