BUILDING A TRUCK FROM THE GROUND UP IS NO EASY TASK, SO MUCH SO, THAT SOME PEOPLE MIGHT CALL IT INCONVENIENT. But as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait, and Chris Rawlins’ fully built ’92 Isuzu pickup, nicknamed “Inconvenience,” is living proof of just that. From an early age Chris was interested in building things, and with some help from his stepdad that interest developed into real skill as the years passed. These skills were especially useful when Chris got to work on his first ever custom mini- truck build right out of high school.

Chris’ first truck was an Isuzu, and it wasn’t long before he was lowering and modifying the pickup. The work sparked Chris’ enthusiasm for the custom world, which lead to his first trip to the Minitruckin’ Nationals in Tennessee and ultimately to his obsession with minis. Long after his college years, Chris’ mini-truckin’ passion continued to burn, and he decided it was time to build another mini, only this time it would be bigger and better.

His truck of choice was another Isuzu, this one was a local trade-in at a dealership. It didn’t run, and it was in less than stellar condition overall, but none of that mattered to Chris, because he was going to overhaul everything in the truck anyway. In true mini-truck fashion, Chris’ Isuzu sports a slew of suspension upgrades, including a narrowed rearend, triangulated 4-link, cut and resplined axles, a cantilever airbag setup and Toxic Shocks on all four corners. Putting the truck as close to the ground as it can go are 20- and 22-inch Raceline Deceptive Six wheels that have been powder coated and machine finished and wrapped in sticky Nexen shoes.
BUILT USING YEARS OF PASSION AND EXPERTISE, INCONVENIENCE REDEFINED THE MODERN MINI-TRUCK BUILD INSIDE AND OUT.”

With such a small truck, it’s hard to beat the power- to-weight ratio of a classic four-cylinder engine, which Chris stuck with for his build. Under the hood you’ll find a 2.3L Isuzu 4ZD engine machined by Motor Parts of Savannah and upgraded with a Stinger 240-amp alternator, Afco Racing radiator, Weber air filter with the 32/36 carburetor and a set of carbon-wrapped Pacesetter headers that dump into a 2 ½- inch stainless exhaust system equipped with Flowmaster mufflers. Matching the amount of performance upgrades to the truck is the number of aesthetic changes, all performed by Chris himself. Giving the truck a unique flair, Chris opted for a Grant Kustoms front bumper and roll pan Cali Combo as well as fenders borrowed from a 1994 Isuzu Amigo and headlights borrowed from a 1996 Rodeo. Even the truck’s bed has been modified with a full sheet metal bed floor, custom wheel tubs and an access window for the differential. Topping off the exterior modifications is a one-of-a-kind custom blue paint scheme with Cool Vanilla graphics outlined in handstriped lines and accented with airbrushed hibiscus flowers.

Of course Chris wouldn’t be happy unless the inside of the cabin was up to par with the rest of the build, so he went on to fully deck out the interior. Katzkin leather, a custom dash, custom center console and hand-built overhead console all house a truly rocking JBL system. This rounded out the build quite nicely, and once complete, Chris was quite proud of what he was able to accomplish with the help of a few close friends. Built using years of passion and expertise, Inconvenience redefined the modern mini-truck build inside and out.
