A Dream C-10 That Knows No Shortcuts

THERE’S A LOT MORE TO CUSTOM TRUCKS THAN JUST THROWING ON SOME ’BAGS AND SHINY WHEELS. A lowered stance and a new set of rollers are major components in changing the appearance of any custom vehicle, but there are just as many other aspects to taking a build outside of the regular modification parameters. Some just want to be low; others want their truck to look great while sitting low, but then there are those who want all of the above and then some.

Trey Cavaretta of One Off Creations falls into the latter category of custom fanatics. He wanted curb appeal plus the ability to smoke any car or truck that dared to rev on him at a stoplight. But come on, who in their right mind would try to step up to Trey in a test of speed after taking just one glimpse at his truck?

THE ROLL CAGE IS FUNCTIONAL YET STYLISH.

In any event, what Trey has done with his truck is not simply an attempt to cross off as many boxes on some to-do checklist as he could. The truck, instead, represents the physical manifestation of a picture that has existed in his imagination way before he even began working on it. Trey’s reasoning behind selecting this exact model C-10 was as simple as the fact that it’s his favorite body style of Chevy’s classic pickups. “I’ve owned the truck for 10 years now,” he says, “and it has always been the most attractive C-10 generation by far to me.” What’s not to like? The first generation has all of the style and soul of the early ’60s, with long, sharp lines that are impossible to forget. But what Trey wanted to do was take that classic GM styling and tailor it to fit his personalized vision so that he could represent his new shop One Off Creations.

TREY WAS LOOKING TO FULFILL HIS OWN IMAGE OF AUTOMOTIVE COOLNESS, AND BY THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS THAT NOW COME STANDARD ON HIS C-10, IT’S SAFE TO SAY HE’S REACHED HIS GOAL.”

WOULD YOU WANT TO GO UP AGAINST THIS MOUNTAIN OF MUSCLE? WE WON’T BLAME YOU FOR SAYING “HELL NO!”

What Trey was going for was a street race car meets laid out truck, but with the quality and execution of a true showpiece that could be appreciated by all auto fans. “I just wanted to take all the great things I love about all the different styles I love and build the perfect one-off creation for myself.” “Unique” is definitely a term that can quickly be attributed to this build.

This C-10 tucks 22s and fours like nothing, and nobody would ever imagine the size of the rear meats being tucked away inside the bed. The truck would be a total sleeper if it weren’t for the 588 Chevy tall deck engine looming in the front. If you want to talk about intimidating, how about the 1,000 hp and 1,000 lbs-ft of torque that the thing puts out. And with the open exhaust, the truck sounds louder than bombs when fired up.

Trey was looking to fulfill his own image of automotive coolness, and by the sights and sounds that now come standard on his C-10, it’s safe to say his goal has been reached. Even if the truck doesn’t particularly score highly in other people’s books, it’s a success as long as it caters to his taste.

WHEN ONE RECURRING DREAM HAS BEEN EATING AWAY AT YOU FOR AN ENTIRE DECADE, IT’S BEST TO SUBMIT TO IT AND DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO BRING IT TO LIFE.”

THE TOTALLY EXPOSED CUSTOM CANTILEVER REAR SETUP IS TRULY A WORK OF ART.
THE INTERIOR ROLL CAGE DOES SERVE SOME EVERYDAY FUNCTION SINCE THE TUBULAR STOCK HAS BEEN FORMED TO MAKE A CENTER CONSOLE.

Trey definitely didn’t take any half measures when molding his truck to resemble the exact one in his imagination. The discipline he showed during the 10-year build was amazing—it’s tough not to settle for just “good enough” sometimes because reaching for the things on the top shelf usually takes more time, requires more labor and costs considerably more money. But when one recurring dream has been eating away at you for an entire decade, it’s best to submit to it and do everything possible to bring it to life. A particular aspect of Trey’s truck that must’ve been one of these nagging visions that kept him awake at night is the presence of the tubular framing that runs wild throughout the entire length of the truck, as well as inside the confines of the cab. The roll cage design further nods to the overall performance characteristics Trey had in mind. Although it might not have been an absolute necessity, it does tie the build together perfectly, which was Trey’s grand scheme all along.

With a decade’s worth of work rolled into the form of his dream truck, Trey can now hop in and rip it around to his heart’s content. It features everything he could ever want in a vehicle: the best of multiple worlds, rolled into one singular creation.
