Installing CVF’s Latest Serpentine System

When it comes to dialing in a killer LS swap, you can’t cut corners on the front drive system. For Project Rocky, we weren’t about to settle for anything less than top-tier. That’s why we turned to CVF Racing and its Reaper Serpentine System to get our 5.3L Chevy LS looking sharp and running smooth. When you select the right parts, this kit has everything you need to complete the install in one clean, well-built package.

The Reaper system is CVF’s top-of-the-line billet aluminum 8-track setup, and once you see it in person, you’ll know how it got its name. This thing looks like it was carved out of solid muscle. It is CNC machined right here in the USA and packed with billet aluminum brackets, spacers, and pulleys that just scream quality. We went with the polished kit because, let’s be honest, if you’re popping the hood at a show, you want heads turning. The polished Reaper kit delivers on that big time.

Aside from the polished finish, CVF designed this kit for performance. This setup comes with a high-flow LS1 water pump, a GM Type II power steering pump, and a beefy Sanden-style A/C compressor, all wrapped up with an 8-rib belt system. We even sprung for the upgraded 300-amp alternator, because, let’s face it, we’ve got big power needs, and the stock setup just wouldn’t cut it.

The best part? The install was smooth as by the book. Every piece fit right where it was supposed to, the hardware is top-notch, and we didn’t hit any of those “what now?” moments you sometimes get with aftermarket kits. CVF even includes a spring-loaded belt tensioner with a patent-pending adjustable bracket that takes the guesswork out of dialing in the belt. Plus, the billet compressor clutch cover and anodized spacers tie the whole look together.

One little tip we’d pass along: for GM applications, it’s smart to run the polished remote mount power steering reservoir for A-arm clearance. Trust us, it’s worth the extra step.

At the end of the day, we can’t recommend this kit enough. It gave Rocky’s engine bay a show-stopping look and serious reliability, all backed by CVF’s lifetime warranty. Over the years we have completed a whole list of installs on Project Rocky, but this Reaper system was one of the cleanest upgrades we’ve bolted on so far.

Just when we thought Project Rocky was finished, we went in for more upgrades. This time, we selected a new serpentine pulley kit from CVF Racing.
Here’s the polished Reaper Serpentine System straight from CVF—a billet beauty built to bring serious style and performance to our LS swap.
Check out the detailed spec diagram straight from CVF. It includes every measurement needed to dial in the Reaper Serpentine System install with precision.
The first thing we did was unbox the full kit and cross-check with the install manual to make sure nothing was missing.
Our Summit Racing LS 5.3L crate engine is ready for a new front drive system. We have A/C, power steering, and hydroboost installed on this truck.

The heads of this engine are already tapped and threaded, and the CVF kit is designed to use these mounting locations.

The first thing to install was the tensioner adapter to the main pulley kit bracket before it goes on the engine.

Now we could install the main bracket to the block using the provided hardware.

Next, the A/C compressor simply bolts to the bracket. The finish of the compressor matches the brackets perfectly.

The tensioner went on next using a single hex head bolt. By the way, check out these amazing instructions in full color. They are very detailed.

The alternator was bolted up next and held in place with the polished hardware provided.
The belt guide pulley was then installed directly to the main bracket.

Before we could put the power steering pump on, we had to add this adapter bracket since we chose the upgraded steel reservoir.
With the bracket installed, we easily mounted the pump to the main bracket.
The hydroboost hoses were hooked up next. These are high pressure, so we were sure to use the proper PTFE hoses.

Now the pump pulley could be mounted to the pump. Check out the hard-cut edges and the finish of this kit. So nice!

This tensioner cover could now be attached. The extra details that CVF added are what set it apart.

Next, we could install the A/C line adapter to the top of the A/C compressor. Love that CVF added its logo to this piece so everyone can see what kind of kit we have.

The belt could be slipped on now. CVF provided the belt as well, and it fit absolutely perfectly.
Proof of the perfect fit is the tensioner location. The guide shows it’s in between both lockouts, which is exactly where you want it.

The Reaper system is CVF’s top-of-the-line billet aluminum 8-track setup, and once you see it in person, you’ll know how it got its name.

Finally, the last few beauty caps could be installed. We added some power steering fluid and charged the A/C. The truck was ready for its test drive!
Check out how clean and shiny this kit is! It sounds quiet, and we can’t wait to feel the additional power we now have. This setup is highly recommended!
