MARK SMYTH
Often, vehicle models from the U.S. are produced and sold overseas with changes to fit the local laws and other requirements. Classic American-style cars have always been in high demand in other countries for anyone who wants to build custom creations. Jamie Smith of Werribee, Victoria, Australia, with the help of Gavin Denham, didn’t have to look very far for his classic. Graduating from a ’98 Toyota Hilux that was ’bagged and had wild paint; Jamie picked up a ’64 Ford F-100 to build. But he wasn’t one to restore it, given his roots. Jamie sought to build a slammed, street rod-style Effie and blend the two styles together.
THE FIRST STEP WAS TAKING THE TRUCK OVER TO THE GUYS AT THE CHOP SHOP WHO SPECIALIZE IN SUSPENSION FABRICATION AND METAL WORK.”

The first step was taking the truck over to the guys at The Chop Shop who specialize in suspension fabrication and metal work. They looked towards their mutual mini-truck roots and stock floor body-dropped the F-100 using an HQ Holden chassis and a triangulated 4-link holding Slam Specialties airbags. From there it was on to the body that was shaved smooth, outfitted with a 2-inch reverse cowl hood and classic ’89 Cadillac taillights that were frenched into the rear of the bed. The inside of the bed was raised to accommodate the notch and lined with Speedliner in red. The interior would see plenty of red as well but Bacchus Marsh of Cre8tive Auto Refinishing sprayed the truck Silver using DNA paint.
BLENDING TIMELESS CLASSIC TRUCKS WITH MINI-TRUCK FABRICATION TRICKS INTO A CLEAN RIGHT-HAND-DRIVE PACKAGE BRINGS JAMIE SMITH’S F-100 TO THE NEXT LEVEL.”

The engine is a Holden as well, a 5.0L V-8 to be exact, but it’s been outfitted with a few go-fast goodies from DJ Automotive, including a Crane camshaft, Hooker exhaust and a custom engine cover. The interior saw classic hot rod looks on the right-hand drive setup. The dash was smoothed and painted, and VR Acclaim seats and door panels were recovered in red vinyl by Werribee Upholstery. A Billet Specialties steering wheel with Negative Camber logo and a B&M Racing Street Rod shifter top things off.

Blending timeless classic trucks with mini-truck fabrication tricks into a clean right-hand-drive package brings Jamie Smith’s F-100 to the next level. We cannot wait to see more innovative trucks coming from our friends down under. ST
