The snowball effect tends to take hold of many truck builders. A mild drop and some upgrades often turn into work on a full-blown show truck. This was the case for CJ Silvey’s ’06 Silverado. The truck started as a base model work truck outfitted with a 4.3L V-6 engine. His original intentions were to give the truck a mild drop and paint job and use it to haul parts for his audio business, Superior Auto Sound. The initial setup didn’t last long because the SEMA show was fast approaching and an avalanche of work ensued.
Just a few weeks prior to SEMA, the truck made its way to the local Earl Scheib for a Metalux Lexus Sunset Bronze Mist paint scheme. Custom audio and a ’bag job completed the package. But the build did not end there. As CJ cruised home from SEMA the first time, the underpowered V-6 engine started to annoy him because it was, well, underpowered. To solve this, the internals were rebuilt and the small engine turned mighty thanks to a Wynjammer supercharger pushing out 10 psi of boost, providing the engine with 467 horses! In order to hold up to the new power, the engine was worked over with forged pistons, a ground camshaft, ported and polished cylinder heads and roller rockers. A ported throttle body helps with air flow, and an Airaid intake and a set of Pacesetter headers flows to a custom Magnaflow exhaust system. All of the wiring was hidden and tucked out of the way for a clean engine bay that was further modified with a custom engine cover. The transmission was beefed up with a Corvette shift kit with billet servos and heavy-duty internals by Scotty Trannys.
The truck then made its way to Seth Whitten for a 3 ½-inch body drop in conjunction with the ’bag job by CJ and Jacob “Mouse” Daughtery of Mouse’s Kustom Fab using an Ekstensive Metalworks front and rear kit with Slam Specialties RE7 airbags and a KP Components Watt’s link. The rearend was narrowed 3 inches with Yukon Gear axles and a Posi with 3.73 gears. The rear was converted to disc brakes and a set of Baer brakes with MGP caliper covers was installed up front. Accommodations were made to tuck massive 26 x 10-inch Armano 502 wheels wrapped in Pirelli PZero 275/25 tires. A Tallon Hydraulics hydro boost and Wilwood master cylinder stops the rollers.
The exterior was kept semi stock with a T-Rex mesh grille insert and Street Scene bumper cover. Mouse’s Kustom Fab raised the bed floor and created the custom notch cover that was covered in tan Al’s liner. CJ smoothed out the tailgate and extended it for a cleaner look. Then Steve and David at Earl Scheib sprayed the truck in Metalux Lexus Sunset Bronze Mist just moments before SEMA. Recently, Josh at Jones’ Paint Innovations added some custom pinstriping throughout the truck.
Inside the regular cab is where CJ, with the help of Brad Apicella, would work his magic to showcase his audio company with a set of custom-formed panels with Orion XTR component speakers, Orion XTR Pro 10-inch subwoofer and XTR 1500 and 6004 amplifiers leading to a Pioneer 4400BT head unit. Then a custom center console to house AccuAir eLevel controller was crafted. Topping things off are a Colorado Custom steering wheel, US Speedo gauges and an Odyssey 1200 battery. The bucket seats were wrapped in Roadwire seat covers and a custom root beer-colored carpet was laid down after sound deadener from DED Acoustics was installed.
The last journey for CJ’s Silverado was a near 1,700-mile drive from Arizona to Washington, proving that not only did the truck look good, sound good and perform well, it could be driven across the country. He couldn’t have done it without the help of Jr. Jacka, Seth Whitten, Mouse, Brad Apicella and Josh Jones. ST
