Did you know the fourth-generation GMT400 C/K model line was introduced in April 1987 for the 1988 model year? Wow, that makes almost 40 years of the famed Chevy “OBS” trucks! Now, let’s be clear—the ’88 Chevy pickup didn’t technically launch the so-called “sport truck”; however, it sure propelled the movement forward. In addition, the ’88 Chevy C/K pickup ushered in many new enthusiasts, many of whom are still building and customizing today.
The Engaged Media team looks forward to bringing you the most features and history as it relates to mini-trucks and more as we continue to expand.
The sport truck era mashed up nicely with mini-truckers who were looking to move into a larger rig to accommodate their growing families and be able to cruise with them to shows. These developments led to the ’88 to ’98 OBS trucks being laid flat on the ground thanks to guys like Brian Jendro of The Chop Shop and Rick Bentley at R Customz.
