While we have plenty of custom truck shows to attend year after year, very few are creeping on celebrating their 40-year mark. The F-100 Western Nationals, which currently takes place at the Canyon RV Park in Anaheim, California, was once held at multiple venues in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, in its infancy, then on to Laughlin, Nevada, for a spell only to return to Havasu again. Today, the show takes place only minutes away from where its roots were originally planted by the Orange County chapter of Pickups Limited Truck Club. June 26, 2021, marked the show’s 38th anniversary, and there are no signs of slowing down any time soon. Even though the show title calls out to a specific model, all pre-’79 Ford trucks are encouraged to attend (not just F-100s). It is this inclusion that has made the Western Nationals the largest custom Ford pickup show on the West Coast. The assortment of trucks that show up is incredible—from mild restorations to full on ‘bagged and bodydropped showstoppers to big, lifted rigs and a few medium-duty beasts peppered in, it’s all here to get an up close and personal look into some of the coolest Blue Oval haulers around. With just over 250 Ford trucks in attendance last year, there is definitely no shortage of quality fabrication work to admire.Subscribe to our weekly newsletter Pickups Limited began as a group of like-minded folks who loved their old Ford trucks, and the family-friendly environment they promoted from the show’s inception is still at the forefront of their current events. There is a welcoming blend of older Ford enthusiasts with the younger generation of truck builders, which makes for an eclectic turnout with so much to look at and learn from.
