The All Custom Season Opener show held FEBRUARY 2021 IN Ocala, Florida, was a welcome change for drivers eager to get behind the wheel and socialize (carefully) with friends after being cooped up for so long by the coronavirus. Show promoter Eddy Cebreco teamed up with Overpower Customs, Auto Metal Direct, Agricon Kubota Superstore and Kahuna Wagon sponsors along with media support from Street Trucks, F-100 Builder’s Guide, C10 Builder’s Guide and the OBS Builder’s Guide, to create the 2021 event. For the second year in a row, the show was held at the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing, attracting drivers from throughout the Sunshine State. The first 50 vehicles to register got a free pass to the Garlits Antique Car Museum, which contains an amazing collection of cars and memorabilia from the sport of drag racing. Opened in 1976, the museum chronicles Garlits’ involvement with the sport. It also displays more than 90 race cars in the Drag Race building along with an additional 50 vehicles in the Antique Car building. Many of the legendary Garlits “Swamp Rat” cars were part of the display. Big Daddy himself was on hand, signing autographs, selling vintage auto parts and posing for photos with fans. Once he had a chance to wander the grounds, Garlits was genuinely impressed with the variety and craftsmanship of the vehicles at the event.Subscribe to our weekly newsletter The show displayed more than 350 colorful customs for the Saturday gathering. Registered vehicles each received a raffle ticket for the chance to go home with a unique aluminum Kahuna Wagon. Participant judging determined the award winners along with a special award selected by Garlits. Winners this year were Stuart Cofer’s 1956 F-100 as the F-100 Builder’s Guide Choice, Mel White’s 1997 Chevrolet Silverado captured the OBS Builder’s Guide Choice, and Shane McAdams’ 2018 black Silverado won the Street Trucks Best of Show. Don Garlits made James Scott’s day by choosing his red and black 1940 Chevy as his personal favorite. The Garlits location has already been booked for next year.
