The name Delmo’s Speed & Kustom probably has a familiar ring to our dedicated readers here at Street Trucks mag. That’s because Del Uschenko, owner and builder of kick-ass trucks and hot rods worldwide, continues to churn out some of the baddest custom C-10s we’ve ever pointed our cameras toward. Since building his first C-10 as a daily/shop truck his phone hasn’t stopped ringing.
Recently, he got a call from a customer in Germany, Fabian Loch, who specifically requested the exact look that Delmo’s Speed & Kustom is known for. Fabian was after a patina’d C-10 laid flat on the pavement, yet still reliable enough to drive everyday around the streets of Germany. These are the kind of calls that really humble Delmo and make him appreciate that his client base spans the globe.
After a theme and plan were mapped out, the crew got to work securing the platform that would soon become known as Sancho. Yes, Delmo likes to name most of his trucks in Spanish. Once he’d placed a few phone calls, Delmo located the perfect specimen and pried it from the hands of his good friend in Atwater, California, Rene Martinez. Rene has a reputation for hoarding all of the cool C-10s in California, so Delmo knew he would have exactly what they were looking for.
After talking over some more design details with Fabian, the process began by stripping Sancho down to the frame to begin the “Delmo Treatment.” The suspension was the first piece of the puzzle addressed. Fitting everything with Porterbuilt front and rear suspension, and a complete AccuAir SwitchSpeed air management system was a no-brainer and made getting the frame flat on the floor quick work. Next up, the right shoes. Some 20 and 22-inch Delmo special smoothies were capped with ’56 truck hubcaps for a little of that old-school flare. To clear the new slammed stance, a raised bed floor with whitewashed oak and a custom flip-up wood strip for filling fuel added the right amount of modern touches while retaining the look and style of the build.
With the suspension and stance dialed in, the drivetrain needed a bit of a refresher to keep the truck reliable as a daily-driven ride. A nicely built small-block, 700r4 and a posi rear to lay all of that reliable power down to the ground were placed between the framerails. With the drivetrain wired and ready to rock, it was just a matter of cleaning up the interior with a few custom touches like gauges from Classic Instruments, although the crew did manage to keep the stock theme throughout. Fabian’s biggest request was that the truck be “natural” and not have the appearance of a modified vehicle, while still being slammed to the ground. Well, nailed it!
This build is the epitome of clean cruiser, and Fabian is now one very happy C-10 owner. We just can’t help but wonder if he gets the Sancho joke, or if this one is better left to those stateside? Stay tuned for more badass Delmo creations, because we’re sure we’ve only captured the tip of the iceberg here. ST
