Living the Life and Printing the Passion

Trends come and go in our industry just like any other. Some weeks it’s bagged classics on the hot list, and others are high-horsepower coilover modern trucks. We love them all, which is why we keep doing this, but each of us is influenced by styles and cultures seemingly without even knowing it. I was lucky enough to be born in 1979, which means that while growing up, my most impressionable years were heavily influenced by a love for truck magazines.

Now that my generation is of age to have professional careers and established families, it’s time to refocus on some childhood dreams like traveling, special hobbies and, of course, building an awesome OBS!

The rags of those years were dominated by the Chevy OBS CK Sport Trucks and the fast-rising Ford Lightning. These sweet trucks filled the pages of every major truck magazine in the country with intense custom-painted graphics and massive chrome motors. We envied those guys in the magazine living the life we could only dream of. It’s was likely just another work day to the editorial teams back then, but to a young kid just trying to get through high school while driving a $1,500 used truck, they were like rock stars!

Now that my generation is of age to have professional careers and established families, it’s time to refocus on some childhood dreams like traveling, special hobbies and, of course, building an awesome OBS! And we’re not the only one to notice this trend. Parts manufacturers and custom truck builders all over the country have been announcing new products for ’89-’98 Chevy trucks and new renderings of custom builds that are currently in production. The rise will be fast as these trucks are pretty easy to find right now, but don’t be surprised if they go up in price each and every day. Do you have a sport truck project going on in your garage? Drop us a line and give us some info. We’d love to see what you have going on!
