ONE STYLE THAT HAS BEEN WELL ACCEPTED BY THE TRUCK SCENE IS THE MODERN STREET ROD LOOK. Styling cues like a low stance, billet wheels and super-clean interior are the name of the game. Paint can very from single colors to traditional flame jobs like the one that adorns Oppie Paredez’s ’04 Chevy Silverado. As you can see, you really can’t go wrong with this theme if it is well executed.
Oppie’s journey to building this truck started when he was a little kid. At a young age, he was addicted to anything with wheels. His dad owned a bicycle shop, and he was interested in anything automotive related. Since Oppie couldn’t drive, he would customize bikes so he could roll around on something cool. He and his dad got into lowrider bikes and later the lowrider car scene. Ultimately, he turned to trucks and never looked back.
SINCE OPPIE COULDN’T DRIVE, HE WOULD CUSTOMIZE BIKES SO HE COULD ROLL AROUND ON SOMETHING COOL.”

He got his feet wet in the scene working on a ’91 Chevy single-cab pickup. By going to shows like the Texas Heatwave, he got ideas and started cranking on the project, which was ’bagged on 20s with a front clip swap, and the top was cut off to make it a roadster. Meanwhile, his sister had an ’04 Silverado extended cab that he thought would make the perfect tow vehicle. He got a little too far too quickly with the ’91 and decided to part it out, and the ’04 ended up getting the full build.
Oppie and his friends ’bagged the truck by themselves so that it would lay out on 26s. As he talked to more people in the scene and made new friends, he decided that laying frame wasn’t good enough. His friend Dustin Jaeger had a crew cab Silverado with a body drop performed by Chaotic Rods and Customs in Conroe, Texas. After seeing how clean the job was, Oppie was sold.
AS HE TALKED TO MORE PEOPLE IN THE SCENE AND MADE NEW FRIENDS, HE DECIDED THAT LAYING FRAME WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH.”

He talked to Mike Jones and the rest of the crew at Chaotic, and Oppie struck a deal to have the shop complete his ride. Getting started, Rocky Fox and the rest of the guys built a stock floor body-dropped frame from bumper to bumper. For the front suspension, a custom set of upper and lower control arms was made for use with the stock spindles. In the rear is a “Texas 2-link” with track bar. The suspension is able to lift the truck up for driving via AirLift Dominator ’bags.
On the body, the front end was updated with a 2006 Silverado grille and hood. Moving back, the stock door handles were shaved and a set from a 2002 Impala was adapted to work. Moving to the back, the tailgate was shaved and now opens using a push-button on the inside. Below the tailgate is a custom steel roll pan that was molded and shaved to the body. The inside of the bed was shaved and custom wheel tubs were made. A wood bed floor and color-matched, spray-on liner top things off. Making the truck stand out, Chris Caldwell and the crew painted it bright yellow with traditional and ghost flames. Afterwards a set of 26-inch Intro twisted Del Rio 6 wheels was bolted on.

Inside the cab, the dash and other plastics were prepped for either paint or upholstery. The centerpiece of the interior is a custom- made console that hides the 12-inch Kicker subwoofer powered by a Sony head unit. The seats were modified and sent to 3rd Coast Interiors to be covered in peanut butter leather and suede.
According to Oppie, he let Chaotic have complete freedom on the interior, and it was really nerve-racking. When he returned to pick up the truck, he was completely shocked by how well it turned out. Though he put a lot into this truck, Oppie admits that it’s no trailer queen. It’s not his daily driver, but he takes it out often and drives it to all of the shows he attends.
IF THE C-10 IS ANYTHING LIKE THIS SILVERADO, HIS DAD, NO DOUBT, WOULD BE EXTREMELY PROUD.”

Seeing how the truck turned out, we’re sure that Oppie’s father would have loved it. Unfortunately, he passed away and never got to see the finished product. Now that this project is done, Oppie plans to build an ’84 C-10 that the two of them planned to work on together. If the C-10 is anything like this Silverado, his dad, no doubt, would be extremely proud.
