Diana Everett’s Spooky Chevy Tahoe

IN 1983, John Carpenter directed the film Christine, based on the best-selling horror novel by Stephen King. In the movie, the car named Christine comes alive and causes harm to everyone around it. Of course, in the film it’s a 1958 Plymouth Fury, but this story is about a 2016 Chevy Tahoe. Either way, the story is similar. Diana Everett spent her entire life in Texas. She was born in Jasper and moved throughout the state and ended up in Buna, Texas. As a child, she was raised on a farm and was all about trucks. “I remember if it wasn’t a truck, it just didn’t matter,” Diana tells Street Trucks. “We used them for hauling cattle and many other things.” As she got older, however, her style of vehicles changed.

Diana would hang out with friends who had lifted trucks but didn’t utilize their purpose by transporting anything. Everything changed in 2010 when she met her now husband, Daniel. Daniel was into the lowered truck scene, and like most relationships, their passions and cultures began to meld together. In 2012, she purchased a Chevy Tahoe that she used to get to and from work at an oil company in Jasper. The Tahoe odometer rolled past 200k miles, and Diana decided it was time to upgrade. Diana and Daniel went to a dealership, and she picked out a brand new 2016 Chevy Tahoe.

The purpose originally was just to have a new driver, but now with her newly ingrained passion, nothing stays stock. Within months, Diana dropped her Tahoe off at Garage 19, where owner Aaron Dugas went right to work adding a new suspension. The Phat Phabz front kit was installed, and a Phat Phabz rear link kit was mounted. Aluminum lines were run for safety. The battery was relocated to the trunk to save room. Under the hood, a cold air intake was mounted, and a Magnaflow exhaust was run for increased air flow. While the front suspension was being worked on, the lower control arm pinned Aaron’s finger against it. During the wiring of the suspension and electrical, the system kept shorting out for no reason whatsoever. The fuse panels kept popping at random times, and the body control module kept giving them issues. It was almost like the truck didn’t want to be customized.

Diana received the Tahoe back, and she took it to Turkey Drag, a show in Lone Oak, Texas. It was there that the Everetts met Bobby and Cody Reynolds from Committed Truck Club. They instantly connected, and she was introduced to painting wizards Patrick Reid and Jonathan Barron. Diana was set on a full color change until she saw the cost it would take to switch everything. Once she saw the work of Patrick and Jonathan, she decided to go with painted graphics rather than a complete change. She only had one stipulation as she handed Patrick the keys—no purple.

One month later, Diana picked up the Chevy with the brand-new paint patterns, and it blew her away. It even had light shades of purple that she accepted begrudgingly. She mentioned the story about how they had dubbed the Tahoe “Christine” based on the movie, and Patrick airbrushed the name on the rear of the SUV. With only the interior remaining untouched, Diana enlisted the services of Brian Watson, a master in upholstery work. The seats, door panels, and every piece inside the cabin were transformed with custom stitching and leatherwork. Daniel added the stereo system for Diana for her long drives to and from work.

Diana has only had mild issues with Christine, as she has bent her rims on local potholes, and her carrier bearing went out twice before having to change the driveshaft, along with other minor issues. She knocks on wood that nothing serious continues to happen, but Christine has a mind of her own. Diana wishes to thank her loving husband for not only integrating his love for lowered trucks but also for supporting her passion in building her new Tahoe. Their three children, Joe, Audrey, and Ashton, are already following in their footsteps and have trucks of their own. We only hope there is a Street Trucks feature in their futures as well.
