Angela Poteet’s 1978 Chevrolet C10: A Classic Truck Transformed with Passion and Precision

Angela Poteet’s 1978 Chevrolet C10

In the heart of Oklahoma resides a piece of automotive history brought back to life through sheer dedication and craftsmanship. Angela Poteet’s 1978 Chevrolet C10 truck stands as a testament to the passion and meticulous attention to detail that defined its restoration journey. The story begins with Angela’s nostalgic yearning for a piece of her high school years – a Chevrolet truck reminiscent of her 1982 stepside. However, fate had a different design in mind when her husband, Haskell Poteet, set out to find the perfect project vehicle. After scouring various options, they stumbled upon a promising candidate in Dewey, Oklahoma. Little did they know, beneath the seemingly decent exterior lay a host of challenges awaiting discovery.

Reflecting on the journey, Angela expresses pride in the truck’s transformation and gratitude for Haskell’s unwavering dedication.  From overcoming unforeseen challenges to refining every detail, the process was a labor of love  that resulted in a vehicle truly reflective of Angela’s vision and Haskell’s craftsmanship.

Initially intended as a straightforward restoration project, the 1978 C10 truck soon revealed its true nature. Hidden beneath its paint job were numerous issues that demanded attention. What began as a simple refurbishment morphed into a comprehensive overhaul, requiring extensive bodywork and mechanical upgrades.

Driven by Haskell’s expertise honed from years in the automotive industry, the transformation took place at Siloam Collision Center, the couple’s former business. With the sale of the center and the establishment of Haskell’s new venture, Delco Customs, the focus shifted to meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail.

The truck’s exterior received a thorough makeover. Angela opted for an AMD aftermarket grille, complemented by Hot Rod Innovations headlights, and a creatively modified rear OEM bumper that integrated additional lighting. Wheel well modifications by Slosh Tubz added a subtle yet distinctive flair, while custom bodywork included removing chains from the tailgate, relocating taillights into the rear bumper, and meticulously shaving drip rails. The finishing touch—a striking red paint job with carefully applied lines on the cab—solidified the truck’s timeless appeal.

Under the hood beats the heart of a 1998 Chevrolet C5 Corvette LS1 engine, a modern powerhouse seamlessly integrated into the classic frame. This 5.7-liter V8 engine boasts GSI LS motor mounts and a PSI wiring harness, delivering a blend of reliability and performance. Enhancements such as Hooker headers and a 3-inch rear-exit exhaust system ensure optimal airflow and an exhilarating engine note.

A 4L60e transmission, sourced from a 2006 Chevy truck and expertly rebuilt by ANJ Transmission in Bentonville, Arkansas, ensures smooth shifts and enhanced drivability. The drivetrain underwent meticulous adjustments, including a 2-inch shortened driveshaft, to accommodate the truck’s modified frame and suspension.

Speaking of suspension, Angela’s truck features a GSI 73-87 front coilover suspension kit, providing a balanced blend of handling prowess and ride comfort. The chassis, original and powdercoated, serves as a sturdy foundation for the truck’s enhanced capabilities.

Inside, the truck exudes a blend of comfort and vintage charm. Custom leather upholstery by P Upholstery in Haltom City, Texas, graces the bucket seats, offering a luxurious feel. The dashboard and engine bay feature Slosh Tubz components, meticulously crafted for both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Dakota Digital VHX gauges with a carbon fiber finish adorn the instrument panel, providing clear, precise readings. A Billet Specialties Draft 14-inch polished steering wheel offers a tactile connection to the road, while a Kenwood DMX stereo system delivers modern entertainment.

Looking ahead, Angela contemplates refinements, particularly in the bed wood, to further elevate the truck’s aesthetic appeal. Despite the challenges encountered during the restoration process, Angela and Haskell remain steadfast in their commitment to quality and authenticity.

Through the journey of restoring her 1978 Chevrolet C10, Angela has gleaned invaluable lessons. She emphasizes the importance of starting with a solid foundation and advises aspiring builders to prioritize thorough preparation over shortcuts. Every challenge encountered served as a learning opportunity, reinforcing the couple’s passion for automotive craftsmanship.

Angela Poteet’s 1978 Chevrolet C10 truck stands as more than a restored vehicle—it embodies a journey of passion, perseverance, and craftsmanship. From its humble beginnings to its current status as a showstopper, every aspect of its transformation reflects the dedication of Angela and Haskell Poteet. As it continues to turn heads and capture hearts at automotive events across the country, Angela’s truck serves as a testament to the enduring allure of classic trucks and the artistry behind their restoration.
