Putting the “Super” in Super Duty

As the owner of McAllen, Texas’s premier truck-building shop, Truck Toyz Performance, Marty Garza and his crew build 4×4 trucks of nearly every size and shape. Much of Marty’s knowledge and training came from building and racing his own monster truck when he was younger. That level of engineering and design skill is where Truck Toyz excels, building rides that are lifted to the max by extensive suspension work and full blown off-road vehicles. One of the many builds to come out of the shop is this ’06 F-250 Super Duty that not only looks tough, but can also haul down the highway at a high rate of speed.

THE CENTER CONSOLE PROVIDES SOME STORAGE FOR DVDS, BUT IT’S ALSO HOME TO A PAIR OF JL W7 SUBS THAT SERVES AS BASS.

Perched high enough to get anyone’s attention, but not so high as to maneuver like a watermelon on a skateboard, this F-250 has received a major overhaul of its suspension pieces. The setup is based on a custom coil-over system since this truck is a daily driver. To enhance the steering on the big rig, a Rize Industries dual steering stabilizer kit was installed, along with King 2-inch steering stabilizer shocks and Donahue Racing alignment cams. A set of King Racing 2.5-inch PreRunner shocks was also installed with a set of Truck Toyz Billet Shock clamps, and to finish the rear setup, a set of Rize Industries traction bars was installed. Marty chose to roll on a set MKW MK 26 wheels that measure 24×11, wrapped in 38/14.0R24 Kumho Road Venture MT rubber, that provide a competitive look and still keep a level of street performance to match the good looks.

Then, the truck headed off to the paint shop, where Jamie Garza at Modena Auto Werks in Houston got it ready for many upgrades. First to go were some of the factory emblems. The body was shaved of the fuel door and the tailgate handle. The rear of the truck received a Street Scene roll pan and a pair of painted-to-match taillights. A Line-X bed liner and a new SnugTop SL tonneau cover were installed at Texas Tops in McAllen to protect the interior of the bed and its contents. To create a performance look on the front of the big Ford, a new Keystone hood was installed that also helps remove heat from the engine compartment, making it functional while creating an awesome high-performance look.

THE 6.0 POWER STROKE WAS MODIFIED WITH THE ADDITION OF THE AFE STAGE 2 INTAKE AND AN MBRP DUAL 302 STAINLESS EXHAUST SETUP, ALONG WITH A QUADZILLA PERFORMANCE XZILLARAIDER MODULE AND PERFORMANCE COMMANDER MONITOR.

Other body changes include the painted Ford Excursion signal mirrors that are mounted on the sides, along with the AMP Research PowerSteps that have blue LED running lights added for an additional custom touch. Chrome tow hooks, a smoked third brake light lens and tinted windows are some of the final touches to the exterior. With the new colors in place over the factory base paint, the subtle blue flame graphics were designed and applied by Alex Trejo. Additional detail work can be found on the truck’s frame, which was filled before being painted along with the axle housings and driveshafts. A set of PML differential covers was installed to add a custom touch on the extensively painted and powder-coated undercarriage, which was completed by David Marroquin at Valley Powder Coat in Donna, Texas.

AFTER SHAVING THE FACTORY EMBLEMS, FILLING THE FUEL FILLER DOOR AND TAILGATE HANDLE, JAMIE GARZA AT MODENA AUTO WERKS IN HOUSTON COMPLETED THE BASE CUSTOM PAINT BEFORE ANY GRAPHICS WERE APPLIED.

With a new look on the outside of the F-250, the factory interior was the next thing to benefit from a little aftermarket upgrade. The entire interior was stripped out of the big crew cab, and it was lined with Dynamat material to maximize the interior sound quality by minimizing the road and truck noise. From there, a set of custom black leather front seats was mounted on special billet frames, while the rear seat is a single unit in matching black leather. The factory headliner was replaced with black suede material to match the newly upgraded seats. The black factory carpet was ousted in favor of an aftermarket upgrade. The centerpiece of the interior is a custom center console created by Richard Sandoval that serves as home base for the audio and video systems.

The audio/video system is now controlled by an Eclipse DVD/nav head unit, with the signals powered by 3,000 watts of Precision Power amplifiers. The center console also houses a pair of JL W7 subs that provides plenty of low down sound throughout the large cab area. To complete the system, components include the Focal Utopia mids and tweeters, matching Q-Logic kick panels and a StreetWire capacitor. The entire system is wired with StreetWire cables to get the very best performance from the components.

Though the 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel was proclaimed to be more powerful than previous models, Marty wanted a little more get-up-and-go than the factory offering. The engine has been upgraded with a Quadzilla Performance Xzillaraider 160-hp module for an immediate boost across the entire power band. In addition, an AFE Stage 2 Intake was installed to improve the overall airflow for additional horsepower, while an MBRP dual 304 stainless exhaust setup was installed on the other end.

Building a truck that has a high-performance look, impressive interior upgrades, boosts the handling and improves performance is what any builder hopes to accomplish. If you see this Ford fill your rearview mirror, you’ll have no doubt about this big rig’s performance. The build on this truck has encompassed all aspects of a full custom vehicle and the results speak for themselves. ST
