The 2020 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty brings something new to the table: the upcoming crew cab boasts 15 (yes, fifteen) camera views. All photos courtesy of GMC Sure, the HD version’s 6.6L Duramax V8 turbo-diesel cranks out 445hp, good for 910 lb-ft of torque, and can tow over 35,000 lbs. But that’s old hat, considering the new Ram HD puts out 1,000 lb-ft of torque.Subscribe to our weekly newsletter No, let’s talk about the cameras. Scattered all over the truck, the Sierra’s cams provide a 360-degree view of the pickup. The various feeds are stitched together with smart software to provide a bird’s eye view of the vehicle, displayed on the center-mounted 15-inch infotainment monitor. This not only helps when parking the brute — the top-down view is useful for lane merging or making tight turns. “Sure,” you say, “but that’s old hat too. Even Toyota minivans have the same doodads now.” Well, there’s another camera, and it’s sole purpose is to help owners “see through” the trailer they’re towing. This wired cam accessory is placed at the back of the tow-behind. The view from this camera is then superimposed over the trailer, allowing drivers to “see through” the trailer’s metal skin as if it weren’t there. GMC claims it’s a first for the industry, and will be available in the 2500 and 3500 models. And if that still isn’t enough, there’s yet another dedicated camera for the interior of the trailer, just in case you want to see how your fifth wheel, horse or cases of Bud Light are doing. The 2020 Sierra HD will be available by the second half of the year, with pricing set to be announced.
