As part of a historic partnership with Hot August Nights, Barrett-Jackson, renowned organizers of car auctions, is excited to announce the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Cup to be awarded during this year’s Downtown Reno Show ’n’ Shine. The event will include a $40,000 prize purse, with $20,000 awarded to the car that earns the coveted Ultimate Best of Show Award. This comes on the heels of Barrett-Jackson’s land-mark agreement with the world’s premiere classic car and nostalgia festival to hold the first-ever Hot August Nights Auction Presented by Barrett-Jackson at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, Aug. 8-10, 2013.

Participants in the Downtown Reno Show ’n’ Shine will compete in daily competitions beginning Wednesday, Aug. 7 through Friday, Aug. 9. Fifteen daily Best of Show winners will receive a ribbon and an invitation to return on Saturday for the finals to take place Saturday, Aug. 10. The 45 finalists will be staged in the Silver Legacy Ballroom from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. where the top five will be selected and sent to the Barrett-Jackson Auction for final judging. Once the final five have been judged at the auction by a team of Barrett-Jackson officials and placed in their respective winning category of first, second, third, fourth or Ultimate Best of Show Winner, they will proceed back to downtown Reno to be staged on Virginia Street for the awards presentation during a spectacular fireworks display pre-sented by the Silver Legacy Resort Casino.
“After much anticipation we’re thrilled to be expanding our footprint to become an integral part of the Hot August Nights celebration,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “We’re all looking forward to bringing the Barrett-Jackson experience to Hot August Nights to help create a level of excitement and anticipation worthy of the Hot August Night event.”
Assisting Barrett-Jackson in this inaugural event will be four of the most recognized names in the business. Bobby Alloway, Pete Chapouris, Bob Johnson and Bob Millard will be involved in all aspects of the award. Their reputations are stellar and their help, guidance and support will continue to elevate Hot August Nights as one of the top premiere car events in the country.
Entrants for the Downtown Reno Show ’n’ Shine must be registered participants of Hot August Nights. For more information on the Show ’n’ Shine or to register your vehicle, please visit Hotaugustnights.net or call the Hot August Nights office at 775.356.1956 ext.

I am a regular reader of your mag. I’ve always had at least one Chevy truck since I learned to drive. Why do you seem to cater to the fleet-side trucks? I can’t believe that I’m the only one that prefers the looks of a good step side. Currently, I have a 7 and a ’73 step side in my garage. I recently sold my ’90 step side. How about More articles for us step-side junkies?

Nathan, Street Trucks Magazine caters to the entire custom truck market, the only publication in the world to do so. The magazine is a reflection of what’s being built and what we see turning into the next big thing. We’ve featured several stepside trucks throughout the years. But it’s no surprise that since the late-’50s the fleet-side truck has been the most popular to customize.

Many prefer to stick fleet-side beds. it’s because they’re to restore, offer ed room and wheel clearance, or it could just be personal preference. Step-side trucks will always have a classic truck look with lines that go back to the birth of the automobile. In the end, it’s all up to you and what you like to build. Just because a truck has a couple of steps on either side of the rear wheels doesn’t mean it’s not cool. If an individual truck looks good, we’ll feature it in the magazine!
