One Skyscraping, Head-Turning Toyota

Most custom truck enthusiasts have two lists: one detailing trucks they have owned and another itemizing those they have yet to own. Pictures and magazine feature plaques line the garage walls of enthusiasts across the country and tell a story about individual style and brand loyalty. Chances are that once a truck guy or gal latches on to a certain make and body style it’s pretty tough to build anything else. For Scott Stephenson, owner of Platinum Collision Repair in Midland, Texas, the designers at Toyota synthesized his truck drug when they created the Tundra.

Back in 2010 Scott purchased Shaun Freilich’s custom ’08 Tundra. As the owner of Complete Customs, Shaun’s truck was, of course, done up with a massive lift, trick paint, big rollers and all of the goodies we’ve come to expect. Scott couldn’t resist and threw a stack of cash at the truck, and enjoyed driving it, showing it and turning heads on the sizzling streets of Texas. After enjoying the truck for a while, Scott got a hankering for a Lamborghini and sold the Tundra to fund the transition from lifted skyscraper to yuppie canyon carver. Stranger things have happened we suppose, but still, it was a pretty big leap.

As time rolled on, Scott regretted selling the Tundra and was ready for another one. The first step in creating this skyscraping sequel was reconnecting with Shaun Freilich at Complete Customs to arrange the delivery of a ’12 Toyota Tundra. To get the truck in the air Shaun installed a 12-inch Bulletproof lift kit with Fox 2.5 remote reservoir shocks and Atlas leaf springs in the rear, and 2.5 Fox coil-overs up front. The suspension was powder-coated orange for show detail, and planted under the elevated chassis are 20 x 10-inch RBP 97R wheels custom- painted orange and black and clothed in Toyo Open Country M/T 38×12.50×20 tires.

To give the body a dose of detail, Shaun installed a RBP RX-3 custom- painted grille. Dressing the leading and trailing edges are orange powder-coated n-FAB bumpers accented by Rigid Industries LED light bars. For a rugged look under the doors and to give a boost to passengers entering the cab, Shaun installed n-FAB nerf bars to accent the rockers.

Even after Scott experienced owning and driving one of the most sought-after sports cars ever created, he still couldn’t resist the feeling of towering over everyone else in a bad- ass lifted truck. The power of truck addiction strikes again. ST
