A 2001 Chevy Blazer That Rewrote the Rulebook

AFTER six years of wrenching, CJ Fayet’s 2001 Chevy Blazer, nicknamed Fight Club, stands as proof that rarity and relentless effort can turn a basic SUV into a rolling work of art. As a longtime photographer for Street Trucks, I’ve shot countless slammed rides, and this one is one of my favorites. House of Kolor Kandy Apple Red over Orion Silver paint, expertly applied by Tyler Hughey at The Original Paint Shop in Covington, Georgia, coats a body that has been modified far beyond factory standards.

CJ, a systems engineer and proud member of Negative Camber, started with a clear mission: “There weren’t many out there. I wanted something different—something I’d be proud to call mine.” That vision drove every modification. The front bumper, borrowed from an S-10, and the rear, pulled from a Toyota, were metalworked to blend seamlessly into the factory fenders. A cowl hood, shaved taillights, flush-mounted AVS brake lights in the tailgate, and an electric push-button rear hatch erase all traces of stock. The front fenders were cut and sectioned to clear 22s at full drop, while a custom 12-gallon aluminum fuel cell was nestled cleanly beneath.

Fight Club has fought its way through LST, Battle in Bama, Slamfest, and other events, earning praise for its interior and front bumper.

Under the sheetmetal, Auto Extremes in Covington, Georgia, rebuilt three-quarters of the frame with 2×3 box tubing that was powdercoated to match the suspension. Air Lift Dominator 2600 bags up front and Firestone 9000 sleeves in the rear, governed by Accuair management, lay the Blazer flat. A parallel 4-link, Panhard bar, and Thorbros control arms ensure precision, while Corvette C5 calipers, powdercoated red, squeeze the drilled and slotted rotors for confident braking.

The original 4.3L V6 received a custom intake, an EGR delete, and a thorough refresh, proving you don’t need extra cubes to make a statement. 22-inch US Mags Cheyenne 5 wheels, complete with Ventus tires, fill the wells with authority.

Inside, Chris Rawlins at Kimballs Audio and Interiors in Savannah, Georgia, crafted a cockpit of Renegade Saloon leather buckets, a Dinamica Saddle Brown suede headliner, and Ultra Square dark brown carpet. Dolphin gauges, a Billet Specialties Twister wheel, and a Sony Mobile ES audio system complete the package. Remarkably, the rear seat remains a functional space in this body-dropped build.

Fight Club has fought its way through LST, Battle in Bama, Slamfest, and other events, earning praise for its interior and front bumper. CJ’s takeaway? “Know what you want, be patient, and watch out for the good idea fairy; she’s expensive.” With gratitude to his wife Jennifer, Rawlins, Robinson, and Hughey, this Blazer isn’t just unique; it’s a benchmark.
