Baby Brother Gets His Turn

Joey Hodges remembers as a young kid riding in his dad’s old Chevy C10 truck. Joey also remembers the day his dad sold it, and from that day forward, he vowed that one day he would build one. Many years later and after owning several businesses, Joey decided he could afford to make his pops proud. He decided he would search for his dad’s old original Chevy C10. He remembered his dad’s friend delivered the truck somewhere in Pennsylvania. He exasperated every avenue to find it with no luck. Joey still wanted a C10 like his dad’s, so he decided to widen the search. After a few months he came across a stock 1970 Chevy C10.

After getting the truck home, Joey and JP Arrington began tearing it down to breathe new life into the rebuild. After they stripped down the frame to nothing, they had Middle Garage work on modifying the stock suspension with a C-notch and dropping in a 9-inch rearend. Everything was powdercoated black by B&B Specialty Coatings. Rodney Walker installed the Wilwood brakes and added a staggered set of 20- and 22-inch Billet Specialties wheels to finish off the frame.

The duo decided that they needed modern power, so the stock 350 engine was swapped for an LS3 with a Holley intake and a 4L60 automatic transmission. Working through the rest of the build, Alfred and John Hamblin filled the stake pockets in the bed and smoothed the firewall. Once they finished blocking the body of the truck several times, they sprayed it with PPG Jet Black. Wrapping up the outside, they installed an oak bed floor and stained it in a root beer brown.

The comforts of the interior start with a Snowden custom seat wrapped in black leather by Chris Belcher of Big Lick Rod & Custom. He wrapped the door panels and headliner to match and installed a Vintage Air unit and Dakota Digital gauges that modernized the interior quite a bit.

It was a team effort, and Joey is glad he’s able to cruise a C10 with his family like his pops did with them growing up.
