A Time Capsule Done Right

There’s something about a nice and clean squarebody that just feels right. No fluff, no extras—just clean lines and a truck that is what it is. That’s exactly what drew Joshua Steele to this 1979 Chevy C10. The plan wasn’t to reinvent it or turn it into something wild. The goal was simple. Build the truck the way it should have come off the showroom floor. Not restored. Not overdone. Just right.

Joshua owns Nevrslo Motorsports out of Austin, Texas, so building trucks is nothing new. But this one meant something different. This build wasn’t about chasing trends or stacking parts. It was about chasing a feeling—the kind you get when you open the door of an old truck and everything just makes sense. That’s what this C10 delivers.

They call it Sexual Chocolate, and once you see it, the name sticks. The root beer brown paint is smooth and deep, catching light in all the right ways without trying too hard. It’s not loud, but it grabs your attention. The body is straight, the trim is clean, and every piece looks like it belongs there. Nothing feels added on. Nothing feels out of place.

Walk around the truck and you start to notice its stance. It’s low, planted, and mean without being over the top. It looks like a factory truck that just happens to sit better than anything that ever rolled out of GM back in the day.

Then you open the door. This is where the build really hits. The camel brown interior is clean and simple, just like it would have been in 1979, only tighter and better put together. No giant screens, no modern distractions—just a clean dash, factory-style panels, and the kind of layout that makes you want to sit and stay awhile. It feels like stepping back in time, and that was the whole point. Even the little details are right. The door panels, the trim, the way everything lines up—it’s the kind of interior that makes you slow down before you climb in, just so you don’t mess anything up.

But this truck isn’t just about looks. Pop the hood and you’ll find a Gen 1 383 stroker sitting where it belongs. Built in-house at Nevrslo Motorsports, it’s balanced and blueprinted with Eagle rods and Wiseco internals. It runs a 10:1 compression ratio, a Clay Smith cam, and ported Flotek aluminum heads. A Holley carb and Weiand intake round it out. It’s a solid setup that sounds right at idle and pulls hard when you get into it. Behind all that sits a TH350 with a B&M shift kit and a 3200-stall converter. This setup is simple, proven, and built to work. Out back, a 12-bolt with 3.73 gears keeps everything moving the way it should.

Underneath, the truck rides on a GSI full front clip and back half, paired with Mustang II rack and pinion steering. That’s what gives it that clean stance while still making it drive the way a truck should. It’s low, but not useless. Clean, but still functional. And that matters, because this isn’t a trailer queen. This is a truck that was built to be used, even if it looks like it belongs under show lights.

The build took about two years to finish. Like any real project, it had its moments. A bad brake booster popped up along the way, but that’s just part of the process. You fix it, you move on, and you keep building. Joshua doesn’t believe in shortcuts. It’s always better to replace everything, from the wires to the bolts to the mounts—anything that moves. Do it once, do it right. That’s how you end up with a truck that feels complete instead of patched together.

This ‘79 doesn’t just look like an old truck. It feels like one. The kind you remember; the kind you wish you never sold. The kind that makes you stop and take a second look. Sexual Chocolate isn’t trying to be the wildest build out there; it’s just exactly what it is—RIGHT.
