Topping out the Tahoe
Installing Rancho Suspensions' 2007 Tahoe 4-inch Lift Kit

Image
The AFT braces rear mounting brackets were mounted to the transmission cross member by sliding the supplied nut brackets inside the cross member to provide a bite for the hardware.

Image
After the rear mounting brackets were secured to the transmission cross member the AFT brace bars were assembled with the supplied bushings and sleeves and mounted up to the rear braces.

Rancho provides a pair of sway bar drop brackets to get the factory sway bar back to where it needs to be. The brackets were first bolted to the sway bar on the ground before being lifted back up amongst the surrounding front suspension.

Image
The sway bar is put back in place with the drop brackets and everything lines up perfectly. Larry and Chris loosely install the end links back into the lower control arms and wait to tighten everything up once the vehicle is back on the ground.

The AFT braces are aligned with the mounting braces on the backside of the dropped sub frame and the hardware is installed and secured.

A shot of the finished front suspension reveals success. Rancho's instructions are very clear, their manual is so specific that it combined with this article should make the installation a no-brainer. Note: The standard color for Rancho's retail suspension kits is black, but if you want red it is available for a little extra green.

Moving on to the rear suspension, the rear axle was supported with a pair of jack stands while the Tahoe was still securely on the lift. The rear sway bar end links were disconnected from the sway bar and the rear shocks were unbolted and removed. The nut and bolt fastening the track bar to the rear axle was removed, and the bracket securing the brake lines to the rear axle was unbolted along with the hardware holding the lines to the left and right sides of the axle. The axle was lowered at this point and the coil springs were removed. A supplied track bar bracket (shown) was bolted into place to locate the track bar for proper location with the height increase.

The supplied Rancho bump stop was installed on top of the lower link bar axle bracket.

The factory 4-link rear suspension drop brackets were installed to set the link bars at the appropriate height and maintain geometry.

Image
The factory rear suspension link bars were set in position on the drop brackets and all the hardware was tightened to the recommended torque spec.

Finally the Rancho lift coils and RS 9000X shocks were installed to help the tail end of our project ascend. The supplied rear sway bar end links were also bolted in at this time, and the sway bar was back in business.

To finish off the Tahoe's stylish new looks, Larry bolted up a set of American Racing wheels mounted on P315/70R17 BF Goodrich All Terrains which are the equivalent to a 35-inch tall tire. After the suspension gear was tightened to spec, the Tahoe was rolled onto the alignment rack to make sure we were tracking straight.
